(KAIR)--An Atchison man was arrested Wednesday morning after police say he allegedly stole a purse from the vehicle of an ex girlfriend.
Police Chief Mike Wilson says the incident took place after the 23-year-old victim entered her vehicle that had been parked in an ally in the 600 block of Main Street. He reports that “as she left that area, she noticed that her 21-year-old former boyfriend was in the rear cargo area of her SUV...there was a struggle over her purse that was in the front seat. He grabbed the purse, jumped out of the car, and ran into the darkness.”
Police were able to locate Chantez Butler at his residence, in the 1600 block of Commercial Street, about two hours later.
Butler was taken into custody and booked into the Atchison County Jail on charges including aggravated burglary, robbery, and domestic battery.
Wilson adds that Butler is also facing an additional robbery charge in connection with an August 2014 alleged purse theft involving the same victim.
