(KNZA)--An American flag now fly’s in front of the Hiawatha City Hall.
Members of the local Boy Scout troop participated in a flag raising ceremony at the beginning of Monday evening’s City Commission meeting for the new flag.
A pole was recently installed in a planter in front of the building to display the flag.
Commissioner Toni Hull was instrumental in seeing the project become a reality. Mayor Crosby Gernon thanked Hull for her efforts.
Meanwhile, work will be done to “ spruce up “ Bruning Park” prior to the start of the upcoming baseball and softball seasons.
Hiawatha ACES board president Ian Schuetz presented Commissioners with a list of projects the community service organization plans to do over a couple of Saturday’s in April at the Park. Schuetz said the organization worked with the Hiawatha Softball and Baseball Associations to come up with the projects.
Schuetz also requested permission for ACES to use the Fisher Center for their summer lunch program, which they plan to hold again this year.
The program will run for 8 weeks, beginning June 1st.
The Commission granted approval for ACES to use the facility.
