(KNZA)-- The jury trial for a Topeka man charged in a Holton attempted murder and rape case began Monday in Jackson County District Court.
Filip Rosario is charged with eight felony counts—including attempted capital murder, two counts of rape, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and criminal threat.
A judge in January denied a request by Rosario’s attorney for a change-of-venue in the case.
Rosario is accused of repeatedly beating, sexually assaulting, torturing and threatening to kill a Holton woman over a course of several hours on December 19th and 20th, 2013. The victim, who dated Rosario for several months prior to the attack, was treated at a Topeka hospital for injuries and released.
The trial is scheduled to run through Friday.
