(KNZA)--Two Missouri residents are facing legal troubles in Brown County, following their arrests last week involving alleged crimes in the community of Horton.
Horton Police Chief John Calhoon says 48-year-old David Reynolds, of Goodman, Missouri, and 33-year-old Regina Arndt, of Joplin, Missouri, were both arrested Wednesday, following an investigation launched after the burglary of a vehicle. “We were dispatched to a criminal damage call in downtown Horton, where a rear window of a vehicle was broke out and also a purse was stolen out of the vehicle,” Calhoon tells MSC News. “Shortly thereafter we learned that the suspects had been at the Dollar General store in Horton [and] used a debit card that was in the purse.”
Calhoon says the search was launched for the suspect vehicle, which was soon located in the local area. “[We] put out a notification to northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri with an eyewitness that gave us a description of a vehicle as well as [a description of] a female that had purchased two large Visa gift cards with the debit card that was stolen out of the purse. A few hours later we were able to get the vehicle apprehended, that fit the description, just south of Sabetha on 75 Highway.”
Reynolds and Arndt were both taken into custody on charges of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, and criminal use of a financial card.
Arndt is additionally accused of interference with a law enforcement officer. “The investigation is continuing,” Calhoon says. “I executed a search warrant on Wednesday and into Thursday of the vehicle and this might be a widespread connection of burglaries, but it's still early in the investigation and we're hoping that we can help other agencies, maybe from Missouri [and] Kansas, that may have also been victims.”
Reynolds was released from the Brown County Jail Friday on a bond of $10,000.
Arndt remains behind bars, wanted on additional outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.
