Annual Banquet Brings City And Farm Together
03/19/2015

(KAIR)--Farmers and city residents will come together Tuesday evening at the Atchison Heritage Center for the 39th annual Farm-City banquet, presented by the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber Project Coordinator Mary Jane Sowers says there are 21 different booths signed up to participate in the event. Some will have games that people can participate in and possibly win prizes, while others will be providing various kinds of information.

There will also be a pie baking contest in which three judges will be judging pies that will later be auctioned off. Music will also be provided by Highland Community College's Lads and Lassies music group.

Sowers adds the event is designed to get city residents and farmers together in one building. She says farmers “can sit there and talk about all their farm work, and all their equipment, and all the plants and crops they grow, and the city people can talk about all the stuff they do in the city.”

The banquet is scheduled to begin at 4:30, with a pulled pork dinner served at 6:00. Tickets are free, and can be picked up at the Chamber office at the Santa Fe Depot, located at 200 South Tenth Street.
