(KAIR)--The April 15th individual income tax filing deadline is less than a month away, and as the deadline draws near, many could find themselves overwhelmed with preparing a return. Atchison H&R Block Tax Manager Mike Kocur says even the most carefully prepared return can be audited by the IRS, saying that if that happens, the best thing you can do is to remain calm. He adds that you should not just go ahead and and pay whats the IRS says you owe. If there is a balance due, it's best to seek help from a professional tax expert for advice on what to do next.
Kocur advises everyone to file a return, no matter the amount they were paid last year. There may be some cases where a return does not need to be filed, but the last thing you want is to not receive any money the government owes you. Even if you have a dependent that only took in a few thousand dollars last year, there is a possibility you could receive a small return.
Kocur adds that taxpayers who filed their tax return after the February 15th close of the government health care open enrollment period, and paid a penalty on their 2014 taxes, will qualify for a special enrollment period from March 15th to April 30th.
