(KLZA)-- The Auburn Public School and Nebraska City Public Schools have received notices of plans to picket at the schools on Friday, February 27. At Auburn the protest is planned for 7:30 – 8 a-m and in Nebraska City from 3:10 –3:40 p-m.
In a letter to parents, Auburn Superintendent Kevin Reiman encourages parents to drop off students using the south side of the Auburn Middle School / High School Friday using 14th Street.
Students walking to school are encouraged to cross the street by the ESU 4 Learning Center and walk along the track fence to the building. School personnel and law enforcement will be on site to monitor students walking to school from that direction.
The school is suggesting the best counter action to the picketers is to completely ignore them.
The right to protest on the sidewalks is protected by the Constitution. Officials request everyone remain calm and orderly. It has been suggested that ignoring the protest is the best way to deal with it. You should not confront, antagonize or otherwise instigate a confrontation.
