(KNZA)--A Royal Valley Middle School 6th grade student is named the champion of the Jackson County Spelling Bee.
Alyssa Carlisle earned the honor Saturday by correctly spelling the word “jettison” during the annual competition held at the Royal Valley Elementary school gymnasium in Hoyt.
Second place honors went to Holton Middle School 6th grade student Kassidy Fisher.
According to the Holton Recorder, her achievement was gained by correctly spelling the words “easel” and “average” following a hard fought battle with another contestant.
Both Carlisle and Fisher will now compete in the March 7th regional spelling bee at Seaman High School in Topeka.
