Competency Evaluation Scheduled In Check Forgery Case
01/23/2015

(KAIR)--A Leavenworth woman accused of check forgery will undergo a competency evaluation before her next court appearance.

31-year-old Amanda Warren appeared in Atchison County District Court Friday morning, where her attorney Rex Lane requested the evaluation. Lane told Judge Martin Asher that he had explained the details of the case to her, and she made it clear that she did not understand anything.

Judge Asher set a new court date for February 13th and ordered the evaluation to take place before then.

Warren was arrested with her alleged accomplice, 51-year-old Topeka resident Lee Warren in December following an investigation by the Atchison Police Department. The couple allegedly manufactured false checks and false identifications to go with them. Investigators believe they passed the phoney checks in several Kansas cities including Manhattan, Topeka, Kansas City, Ottawa, and Lawrence, as well as Buchanan County, Missouri.

Lee Warren also appeared in Atchison County District Court Friday morning. His attorney requested a continuance so that a plea deal may be reached. Judge Asher set a new court date for February 6th.
