(KLZA)-- The Pawnee City, City Council this week met with Sheriff Jayme Reed. One of the topics covered was the ongoing process concerning the Gaston property at 1138 G Street, which has been declared a nuisance. The 30-day window for the property owner to abate the nuisance has passed. The next step is an asbestos inspection. The City wanted the Sheriff to be award of the situation in case the inspector would have any problems with the property owner.
In other business the Pawnee City Council reviewed a new 5-year open burn permit from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality for burning at the tree dump pile. Stephens says problems with dumping of extra items continue to be a problem. A camera is currently in used to review what is being dumped.
A discussion was held about how the Library utility bills are paid. A meeting will be held with the Library Board to further discuss the issue.
The 1 & 6 Year Street Plan was reviewed. No changes have been made.
The Pawnee City Council members also discussed issues with Co-Opportunity Health Insurance. The firm, which is provides the health insurance for City employees is facing financial difficulties. The Nebraska Association of County Officials will provide bids from several other insurance carriers and is recommended the City change carriers.
The Council also approved attendance for two City Employees to attend the League Of Municipalities Midwinter Conference.
