New Doniphan Co Commissioner Sworn In
01/14/2015

(KNZA)--Tim Collins took his seat on the Doniphan County Commission Monday after he was sworn into office as the new 1st District commissioner.

The Highland resident was elected last November to replace David Van Laar  who didn’t seek re-election.

During their annual reorganization, 2nd District Commissioner Terry Horner was selected to serve as board chairman for 2015 on a 2-1 vote.  Commissioner Jerry McKernan cast the lone “ no” vote.

During their regular meeting, the Commission accepted the low bid from Eckard’s Home Improvement in St. Joseph for the replacement of the carpet and title in the courthouse offices for a cost of $40,850. The bid was among three received. Funding will come from the county’s sales tax fund.

The work is being done to comply with a Department of Labor safety audit.  Doniphan County has also been given until March 4th to repair and replace ceilings in several courthouse offices. County Clerk Peggy Franken informed the Commission that bid specifications for the courthouse ceiling project have been drawn up by Garland Greiner and she will have them ready for the board’s review at their January 20th meeting. The Commission voted to pay Greiner $25 an hour for 16 hours labor in drawing up the bid specifications.
