Alleged Credit Card Theft Leads To Arrest
(KAIR)--An Atchison woman who allegedly took a credit card from an acquaintance is facing theft related charges.
Police Chief Mike Wilson says that the card was allegedly taken from the home of the 61-year-old victim, located in the 1200 block of North Fifth Street on December 30th. The theft was reported on January 5th after the victim noticed that the card had been used several times without his permission. Police initiated an investigation, and soon identified 38-year-old Tabetha Schmelzle (Sh-melz-lee) as a suspect.
Schmelzle was arrested Sunday, and booked into the Atchison County Jail on charges including criminal use of a financial card, and computer crime.
Wilson says the card was allegedly used once at a local convenience store and seven times online, totaling charges of approximately $500.
