(KAIR)--An Atchison man, accused of child abuse and theft, has entered a no contest plea to charges in both cases.
21-year-old Brett Betts appeared in Atchison County District Court Friday morning to enter the plea to one misdemeanor count of endangering a child and one felony count of aggravated battery in the first case, and to one count of felony burglary of a dwelling and misdemeanor theft in the second.
Sentencing for both cases has been set for February 13th.
Betts was arrested in February 2014 after he caused severe bodily harm to his four month old daughter. The child sustained permanent brain damage from injuries associated with shaken baby syndrome.
Betts was released on bond and awaiting trial on charges stemming from that incident, when he entered a residence located in the 600 block of North Second Street and removed two saws from the property in December of last year.
