(KNZA)--Longtime Hiawatha City Commissioner Bill Collins has filed for the position of mayor.
Collins, who filed Thursday, is the first candidate to seek the position.
Mayor Crosby Gernon has announced he doesn’t plan to seek re-election. Gernon has served as mayor since 2006.
Collins, who currently serves as Commissioner of Finance, has served on the Commission since 1993.
