(KNZA)--What to do about a closed bridge north of Troy was a topic of discussion again at this week's Doniphan County Commission meeting.
In recent weeks, the discussion had involved whether it would be better to repair or replace the structure at 215th and Mineral Point roads.
On Monday, area landowner Norman Meng met with the commission to further discuss the situation. Meng voiced his opposition to having a low water crossing installed in place of a bridge structure. However, he said he would be in favor of placing a permanent tube at the location rather than replacing the bridge due to county cost constraints.
Following discussion, the Commission agreed to have an engineer survey the site to determine if a tube would be sufficient before making any decisions.
In other business, the Commission voted to enter into an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation for the replacement of another county bridge. Under the agreement, KDOT will provide up to $160,000 in grant funding through the agency's Local Bridge Improvement Program for the replacement of the bridge at the intersection of 190th and Saratoga Roads.
