(KAIR)--A pair of Benedictine College students have done their part to make sure that local kids stay warm this winter.
Taylor Lee along with his partner, were required to coordinate a community project for one of their classes. Lee says that when they brought the idea of collecting warm clothing for kids to their professor, they were told to go as big as they could. However, some adjustments to their plan had to be made in order to make it as effective as possible. He says that they quickly realized that coats would be too expensive , and they would not be able to help out many children. So it was decided to collect hats and gloves. They raised enough money, and collected enough donations to provide every child in Atchison that receives a free or reduced lunch at school with hats and gloves.
Lee says that they worked hard to involve several local businesses in the collection process. They were able to place donation jars in seven businesses.
Lee says the Warm our Chilly Children project started in early September, and ended with hats and gloves being distributed to kids who receive free or reduced lunches in six local schools in early December.
