(KNZA )--A longtime leader of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas has been removed from the Tribal Council for what the tribe calls a “ breach of fiduciary duty.”
Tribal Council Chairman Lester Randall says the Tribal Council voted during a special meeting Friday to remove Steve Cadue from the governing body. Cadue has served as tribal chairman many times during the past 30 years.
According to a statement from the Tribe, Cadue, as the tribe's budget officer, failed to appropriately modify the tribe's fiscal year 2014 budget despite knowing that the tribe's Golden Eagle Casino's revenues fell severely short of projections. In addition, the release states Cadue executed a pledge agreement which secured the Tribe's trust fund for its young members as collateral on a promissory note without Tribal Council action.
Randall noted tribal members demand accountability from their elected leaders. "Circumstances demanded the tribal council take action to restore confidence in the financial stability of the Kickapoo Tribe and its operations,” he said in a press release issued Monday.
Kickapoo tribal elections were held on October 6th last year, and the Tribal Council reorganized immediately following the election with Randall being elected Chairman, replacing Cadue.
