(KLZA)-- January 3rd Mike Johanns ends several decades of public service. Johanns started his political career as a Lancaster County Commissioner, served as a Lincoln City Councilman and Mayor of the Nebraska’s capital city. He went on to serve as Governor of Nebraska and then accepted an appointment from President Bush as Secretary of Agriculture.
Johanns final stop was two terms in the U.S. Senate. Recently, Johanns took his turn saying goodbye to his colleagues in the U.S. Senate.
Johanns thanked the people of Nebraska, who has shown their trust in him, hoping he has upheld the high standards Nebraskans have set for their office holders.
Johanns says he has no regrets about his public service as he looks back. He said the character of the people of the United States and the wisdom of those who helped write the Constitution would help carry the country forward, allowing us to overcome the overreach of any one president and the misguided policies of any administration.
Johanns concluded by wishing good luck to Senator-elect Ben Sasse, wishing him the best. Johanns says ordinary people can do extraordinary things, even in Washington D.C.
