(KAIR)--Atchison city officials are asking residents to limit their water use Wednesday as city crews conduct work at the water treatment plant.
According to a release from the city, the work will be conducted throughout the day and will cause a disruption in the production of water for several hours. However, customers should not experience an interruption of service, as treated water will be stored up to capacity in various water towers and tanks throughout the city.
City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont says the water limit is just a precaution to allow crews as much time as possible to get the work done.
The city's new 2 million gallon storage tank can store enough water to last ten to twelve hours. Prior to it's installation, the city only had only about four to five hours of storage capacity. The increased capacity can be beneficial during any time when construction or maintenance work is being conducted at the water facility.
The city suggests that customers can help by delaying such activities that use water such as laundry, washing cars, and running the dishwasher.
The work should be completed by the end of the workday Wednesday, and at that time, customers can resume normal water usage.
