Safe Travel Urged For Holiday Weekend
11/28/2014

(MSC News)--The latest special traffic enforcement campaign, spearheaded by the Kansas Highway Patrol, in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, is launched for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Safe travel is the reason behind the effort, with the focus placed on impaired drivers, child passenger safety laws, and seat belt use among travelers of all ages.
Patrol Trooper Don Hughes says the  program is supported by a grant from the Kansas
Department of Transportation which allows for extra enforcement.
According to KDOT, there were 569 collisions that left 150 injured and six dead during the Thanksgiving reporting period last year. 48 of those wrecks were alcohol related.
This year's reporting period began at 6:00 Wednesday evening and runs through 11:59 Sunday night.
