Atchison Salvation Army Stands Ready To Lend A Hand
11/25/2014

(KAIR)--As family and friends gather together this holiday season to exchange gifts and enjoy a meal together, it can be easy to forget that there are a significant number of people that may not have the means to experience a happy holiday.

The Atchison Salvation Army is hard at work to ensure that that number is as low as possible.

Salvation Army Case Manager Candi Merrill says their focus now is to make sure that those in need have food for the holidays, with the focus being to have a food box delivered to each home that has applied.

The Angel Tree program has also returned with one tree placed at the Gateway To Kansas Store. Merrill says people can take an ornament from that tree and  purchase a gift for the child.

Kim Bottorff, also with the Salvation Army, adds that that the Red Kettle Campaign will also be returning this year. She says there will be six bell ringing kettles located throughout the city where volunteers will be ringing bells and asking for donations.

Bottorff says the organization is always looking for a helping hand, though there is a process that has to be gone thorough if someone wants to volunteer on a regular basis.
