(KAIR)--Voters had the opportunity to meet with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis when he made a stop in Atchison Friday afternoon.
Davis, who had met with voters in Leavenworth earlier in the day, said “we need to move our state forward. I am a lifelong Kansan, I love this state, and I've been watching the past four years, and the state is simply going backwards. We have got to be able to unite Democrats and Republicans, and we have got to be able to confront these issues that we have”.
Davis adds that be believes that the state's public education system needs help, and as the son of two teachers, this is something personal to him. He says that “all you need to do is talk to the people in the public schools, and they will tell you that the dollars that have gone into the classroom have been cut by Sam Brownback, the largest single cut to public school funding in state history”.
Davis also responded to comments made earlier in the day by Governor Brownback regarding his position on partial birth abortion, obamacare, and tax increases. He says that “Governor Brownback has resorted to personal attacks and distortions because he simply can't defend his record as Governor. We have had four years of a Governor who has cut education and has subjected our state to a real life experiment that just is not working”.
Davis concluded his Friday tour with a stop in Holton, visiting with voters at the Holton Senior Citizens Center.
