(KNZA)--The 100th annual Hiawatha Halloween Frolic will take place Friday, with a full slate of activities planned.

Halloween Committee co-chair Stacy Babb says Mrs. John Krebs began the tradition in 1914.  The theme of this year’s Halloween celebration is “ 100 Years of Halloween”.

Babb says the day’s activities will begin with the business costume contest from 9 to noon.  Judging for the kids costume contest will begin at 2, with registration from noon to 2 at the Brown County Historical Society Auditorium.

Halloween Committee Chairwoman Beth Mikita says the afternoon “ kiddie parade” will be at 3:30 and evening parade at 7:30 this year with activities planned between the two parades.   That will include a photo booth, the business trick-or-treat, a magician, a stilt walker, the Bride of Frankenstein, a juggler and music.

The crowning of the Halloween Queen will take place at 6:30 in the Brown County Historical Society Auditorium, with 12 area girls vying for the honor.

Following the evening parade will be a performance by “ Those Funny Little People” from America’s Got Talent and grand finale performance by Willie Arthur Smith’s Marching Cobra’s of Kansas City.  The Marching Cobra’s also performed at the 75th parade.
