(KAIR)--Seven parking lots in downtown Atchison have been scheduled for new parking space markings.
According to City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont, the work will improve the overall look and accessibility of the lots. He says that it has been five or six years since the lots have been re striped and the lines are pretty faded. He adds that officials have not noticed people parking incorrectly, but they want to ensure that those spaces are marked appropriately.
He says this work also gives them a chance to re examine each lot to ensure that they have the correct number of handicap spaces.
Affected lots include the 300-600 blocks of Main Street, and the 400, 600, and 700 blocks of Kansas Avenue. The work is set to begin in the early morning hours Monday. The lot located on the 700 block of Kansas Avenue is scheduled to be reopened before the start of business Monday, with the other lots opening as crews work through them. On Tuesday, the other half of those lots will be closed, while the 400 block of Kansas will be striped early and opened by the start of business.
The city asks that all vehicles be removed from the closed portions of the affected lots on Sunday and Monday evenings.
Striping may continue into Wednesday depending on weather conditions.
