(KLZA)-- The Richardson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a news release concerning a shotgun and rifle inadvertently left unattended at the Falls City Police Department firing range on October 16th.
According to the release, the Sheriff’s Office was conducting firearms training on the 16th. Qualifications and training was accomplished with pistols, shotguns and rifles.
After the training was completed, a sheriff’s office shotgun and a rifle was left unattended at the range facility. An employee of the City of Falls City noticed the firearms on Tuesday, October 21 and brought them to the Falls City Police Department. Both guns were returned to the sheriff’s office. The firearms were assigned to the deputy sheriff that was the range officer for the training event.
The news release notes that no laws were violated, and it is not believed the public was placed in danger by the error. The range is located over the hill, west of the City tree dump and leaf pile. The facility is gated and locked.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked the city employee and the Falls City Police Department for their assistance in recovering the firearms.
When contacted by MSC News Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff Houser said he had no comment other than the news release.
