(KAIR)--Atchison city officials are taking another step toward implementing a new single source, curbside recycling service.
City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont came before Commissioners during a recent meeting with a purchase order for approximately 1,200 recycling carts. 1,000 of those carts will be distributed to city residents who have already signed up for the service, with 200 being set aside for future sign ups.
Pregont says the total cost of nearly $76,000 for the carts is reasonable, as it is almost the same exact cost as the trash carts the city purchased earlier in the year.
Commissioners voted 5-0 to authorize the purchase of the carts.
Pregont says the carts should be delivered to residents sometime in December, with the new service scheduled to start in January.
