(KNZA)--A committee has recommended an estimated $15.8 to $18.9 million in facility improvements be considered for a bond issue for the Hiawatha school district.
Members of the committee made their recommendations to the Board of Education Monday evening. The recommendations were presented in two lists—one containing what they believe are the highest priority items and the other consisting of items they want.
Among the priority items are plumbing upgrades at the elementary school, HVAC improvements at all three district schools, security and life safety improvements at all three schools and technology upgrades. Also included is lighting, roof, and drainage improvements at the elementary school.
Included on their “ want” list was construction of a multi-purpose room addition at the elementary school, a career and technology center for the high school and middle school and bathroom upgrades at the high school.
Committee members said they believe the improvements are needed for the district to maintain a safe and progressive environment for Hiawatha schools.
The board made no decisions, but set a special meeting for Monday, October 27th at 7 in the evening.
