(KTNC)-The Falls City Board of Education approved the final reading of five policies Monday night.
The policies include one pertaining to the transportation of students by school employees. The board discussed that policy at length last month and the revised policy no longer allows school district employees to transport students in personal vehicles for school purposes in most instances, except in emergency situations with permission.
Other policies that were approved Monday included ones pertaining to records management, debt collection, buses, and emergency plans and drills. The policy on emergency plans follows a new state law that mandates that schools conduct a certain number of emergency drills each year – including at least 10 fire drills and two tornado drills.
The board approved the first reading on five other policy revisions.
The board also approved a motion to withdraw District 56 from membership in the Greater Nebraska Schools Association. Heckenlively says the organization in recent years has focused its mission more on the needs of the largest, primarily Class A, school districts in the state – especially relating to school funding.
As the amount of state aid the Falls City School District receives has dropped in recent years – now accounting for just six-percent of the General Fund budget – Heckenlively says he does not see the benefit to Falls City continuing its membersip in the GNSA.
