(KAIR)--A Monday morning welfare check in Atchison lands one man behind bars where he faces drug related charges.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says it happened after officers were called to a residence in the north central part of the city for a welfare check on 26-year-old Jesse Smith just after 11:00. The home's occupants informed them that Smith had left the scene on foot shortly before they arrived. He was located a short time later in the 900 block of M Street.
After officers confronted Smith, they discovered what appeared to be marijuana and methamphetamine in his possession. He was arrested and transported to the Atchison County Jail where he faces one charge of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
