(KNZA)--A 62-year-old St. Joseph man escaped serious injury Monday night after the ultralight plane he was piloting crashed into a field in southern Buchanan County.
KQ2-TV reports the accident happened just after 6 along Highway JJ, south of St. Joseph.
Police say the man was about 100 feet off the ground when he noticed engine problems. The ultralight plane crashed into a bean field.
When officers arrived, the man had already walked away from the plane wreckage and was back at a plane hangar.
He was later taken by private vehicle to a hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
