Area Youth to Participate in Fourth Annual Construction Expo
On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the Kansas Department of Transportation will host the fourth annual Construction Career Day Expo for area youth at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka. The Construction Career Day Expo is a construction and transportation industry-related career day for middle and high school students in the Topeka/Shawnee County and Jackson County area. Approximately 1,500 students are anticipated to attend this year’s event which will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Area middle and high school students will have access to more than 30 exhibits that showcase the design, construction, development and project management facets of the transportation industry. Construction career tracks students will learn about include engineering, architecture, contracting and the skilled trades.
“The expo provides area students a hands-on look at the numerous career opportunities available in both the construction and transportation industries,” stated KDOT Secretary Mike King.
Participating schools include: Topeka High School; Topeka West High School; Highland Park High School; Shawnee Heights High School; Heritage Christian School; Royal Valley High School; Capital City School; Hope Street Academy; Seaman Middle School; Robinson Middle School; Jardine Middle School; Landon Middle School; French Middle School; Eisenhower Middle School; and Chase Middle School. Participating students will receive an event t-shirt, lunch and a day full of fun and educational learning on the construction and transportation industries.
