New Hiawatha Fire Truck Ready for Service
09/05/2014

(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Fire Department’s new pumper truck is ready for service.

City Commissioners got a first hand look at the new truck, which was recently delivered, prior to their meeting Tuesday evening.

The truck will be used primarily on rural calls, and replaces a 1974 truck.

Commissioners last October approved the purchase of the truck from Snyder, Nebraska-based Smeal Fire Apparatus Company for nearly $264,000.

The majority of the funding for the new truck comes from a $338,000 loan/grant awarded to the city through USDA Rural Development for the purchase of public safety equipment.  The city provided around $38,000 from the capital outlay fund.
