(KAIR)--Atchison city officials are moving forward with plans to conduct several repairs at the Amelia Earhart Memorial Airport necessitated by a storm that blew through the area in July.
City Commissioners voted Tuesday afternoon to award contracts to Amerifence Corporation and Kearney Construction for the repair of fencing and buildings located on the airport property.
Assistant City Manager Becky Anderson says the approved contracts will cover all but the hanger that was completely destroyed, which will be addressed separately. She adds that that process to get a new hanger built has already started, and officials have already started talking with the airport board and working to decide what the new hanger should look like. Anderson says that issues such as how many hangers the city can afford to build need to be addressed before the rebuilding process gets too far.
Anderson estimates that construction on the new hanger will most likely start during the spring of next year.
