(KLZA)-- Falls City Elks Lodge #963 received word last week from the Grand Lodge in Chicago, that a planned remodeling project has been approved. It is hoped the project can begin in mid-October and be completed by the first of the year.
Rob Gerweck, Chairman of the Trustees said a fundraising group has raised a substantial portion of the total funds needed. Gerweck estimates the remodeling project to cost approximately $350,000.
Originally the idea of building a new facility was explored but the cost was prohibitive.
The Elks Lodge has been located in the 1400 block of Stone Street since the early 60’s. Some of the planned improvements include gutting the current facility and giving it a wide open look. The kitchen will remain in the same location. There will be all new plumbing and electrical and the facility should accommodate 300 people.
The blueprints for the remodeling project was submitted by Ayars & Ayars, Inc. and Arch+tects Etc. of Lincoln. Many local contractors will be used for the project. An architect’s rendering of the proposed plan is hanging on the wall in the Elk’s Lodge.
Gerweck said in the future the hope is to add a deck on the south side of the building.
The fundraising committee thanked the volunteers who helped make telethon calls and all of the donors who have helped to make the vision a reality. Anyone who would like to contribute to the project may contact Gerweck or committee members including Renee Kopf, Cathy Scholl, Ben Hullman, Dan Simon and Jerry Joy.
