(KNZA)--The Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education has adopted a 2014-2014 budget of $17.3 million.
The action followed a hearing Monday evening drawing no public comment.
Those in the former USD 441 will see an increase in their mill levy rate over last school year, while those in the former USD 488 will see a decrease. Property owners within each of the old district boundaries pay their previous districts bonds as those were approved prior to consolidation in 2010.
In other business, the board approved a proposal from Schneider Electric to install controls on new HVAC equipment at Sabetha High School to help control the humidity and reduce electrical costs. The expected result would be an annual energy savings of $4,000 to $6,000. The board approved the proposal from Schneider Electric in the amount of $19,780 contingent that the auditor confirms they don’t need to bid the project.
The board discussed moving the bleachers from the former Bern school to the Sabetha High School JV gym. The current bleachers in Sabetha aren’t up to code. In order to move the bleachers, electrical accommodations must be made in the Sabetha gym. The board approved a proposal from Sweat Electric for the electrical work in the amount of $2,160. The board also approved a bid from Lee French Bleacher Repair for the removal of the old bleachers and replacement with the bleachers from the Bern school in the amount of $10,551.
