(KNZA)--More local lakes are placed under a warning status, as the presence of toxic blue-green algae intensifies.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says the Brown County State Fishing Lake and the Hiawatha City Lake now join Atchison County's Warnock Lake for the dubious distinction.
The three local lakes are among a total of ten statewide placed under the warning status due to the toxic blue-green algae threat.
State health experts say direct physical contact with the water should be avoided. Pets should be kept away from the water as well.
Fish should be rinsed with clean water and only the fillet portion consumed.
