(KNZA)--The second person charged in a Brown County identity fraud case has pleaded no contest to related charges.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says Amanda Gundersen, of Hiawatha, entered the plea Monday in Brown County District Court to three counts contained in an amended complaint of aiding and abetting Molly Smith in harassment by telephone. Sentencing was set for September 8th.
Gundersen had originally been charged with two counts of aiding and abetting identity fraud and one count of aiding and abetting harassment by telephone. She pleaded “ not guilty” to the charges in March and a jury trial had been set for September.
Smith, of Troy, was sentenced in April to one year in the Brown County Jail after she was convicted on eleven counts--one count of criminal threat, two counts of identity fraud and eight misdemeanor counts of harassment by telephone.
Hill says Smith assumed a false identity in order to text various individuals in the Hiawatha area, sending harassing and threatening messages.
Smith and Gundersen were arrested last November following an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
