(KNZA)--A threatened protest of Hiawatha churches sparks the creativity of a Hiawatha woman who plans to counter the hate with a dual purpose donation drive.
Stacy Babb says the “Double the Love, Divide the Hate” event will be held Sunday, and will serve to collect donations both for the North Brown County Food Bank and the Morrill Public Library. “The food pantry needs food and the library needs books to kind of help families and LGBTQ youth, [to] help answer some questions that they might have, so why not meet and collect pennies and food and kind of just have a little get together Sunday morning?”
The pennies will be collected on behalf of the library while a wide range of food will be accepted for the food pantry. “Just any food you want to bring in. They do prefer canned and stuff that won't go bad. They said they'd really love to have things like healthy soups, stuff like that, that kids can cook and microwave themselves. Also, we're collecting pennies and change to go towards some books for the library, to support LGBTQ youth and their families.”
The “Double the Love, Divide the Hate” collection drive will happen Sunday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 at the Daily Perk, located at 123 South 6th Street, in Hiawatha.
