School Supply Drive Seeks To Aid Local Foster Children
07/10/2014

(KAIR)--Representatives from KVC, a nonprofit foster care agency covering all of Kansas, will be holding a school supply drive this weekend in Atchison aimed at providing school supplies to local foster children.

Community Resource Specialist for KVC, Bryan Drescher says the drive serves a very important purpose to the 150 foster children currently residing in Atchison, Brown, and Doniphan counties. He feels as though it is the organization’s responsibility to provide the proper tools to these kids so they can learn at the highest capacity possible.  He adds that it can be hard for a child to succeed in the classroom if they do not have the supplies that most teachers require in their class.

Drescher says that supplies such as pens, pencils, calculators, crayons, wide ruled and college ruled notebooks, three ring binders, glue sticks, pocket folders, draft paper, and index cards are needed. Backpacks in solid colors, preferably new, will also be appreciated.

Drescher adds that monetary donations and Walmart gift cards are also welcome, and all money received will go to purchasing more school supplies.

The KVC school supply drive will take place Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm in front of the Walmart Supercenter, located at 1920 U.S. 73 Highway in Atchison.
