(KAIR)--Democratic candidates for local, state and federal offices will gather in Atchison Saturday evening for a meet and greet event with local residents.
The event, which will take place at the Jackson Park Stone Shelter House, will give voters a chance to meet with the candidates and to ask any questions they may have leading up to the elections.
Rob Bulk, who helped organize the event, says that the event will start at 5:00, with the candidates slated to start speaking soon after. Each candidate will have five to seven minutes to express their thoughts on the future of Kansas, and what it may look like after the elections take place.
Bulk says there is no formal question and answer session planned, but those in attendance can speak to them after the speeches for an informal session.
Candidates scheduled to appear include Margie Wakefield, who is seeking to represent Kansas' second district in the United States Congress, candidate for Kansas Attorney General A.J. Kotich, Kansas Insurance Commissioner candidate Dennis Anderson,Jean Schodorf, candidate for Kansas Secretary of State, candidate for Kansas House of Representatives Steve Lukert, State Representative Jerry Henry, Charlie Purdue, candidate for Atchison County Commission, and Chad Taylor; who will be running against fellow Democrat Patrick Wiesner for a seat in the United States Senate in the August 5th Primary election. Wiesner also plans to attend, along with Tom Burroughs, who will be representing gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis.
The event is free, and open to the public. Refreshments will be available, and those planning to attend are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
