(KNZA)--It will be awhile longer before it’s determined if a Topeka teenager is prosecuted as an adult in a Holton child abuse case.
A hearing on the motion filed by Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller in the case against 17-year-old Koylen Corbin McKinney had been scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed until August 8th at the request of the defense.
McKinney is charged with felony counts of aggravated battery, abuse of a child and aggravated endangerment of a child.
He was arrested April 18th after a medical call to a Holton apartment complex where a 7-month-old boy was reported to have difficulty breathing and was unresponsive.
The boy was airlifted to a Kansas City area hospital and has since been released.
Miller told the Topeka Capital Journal that the boy suffered numerous complications from the incident, including serious brain damage. She said the baby may never walk or talk.
McKinney is currently being held in the Shawnee County Detention Center. Miller says he will turn 18 on Tuesday, and be transferred back to the Jackson County Jail.
