(MSC News)--The Democratic party has now officially entered the Kansas Governor's race in an attempt to unseat Republican Sam Brownback.
That happened Thursday, when House Democratic leader Paul Davis, seeking the Gubernatorial seat, and former Kansas Board of Regents member Jill Docking, his running mate for the position of Lieutenant Governor, filed the paperwork necessary to formally launch their campaign against the GOP incumbent.
Davis has represented the state's 46th district since 2003, while Docking is the daughter-in-law of the late Robert Docking, who served as the 38th Governor of Kansas.
Brownback is challenged by his fellow party members Jennifer Winn and her running mate Ethan McCord in the August 5th primary.
Davis and Docking are, so far, unopposed.
The Libertarian Party is also working to topple Brownback, with Alma attorney Keen Umbehr joined by his son Joshau Umbehr in the run for Governor.
Davis, hitting the campaign trail, is coming to the local area Friday afternoon.
He will be visiting Atchison, with the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce, the Atchison Hospital, Atchison Middle School, Benedictine College, and the Riverfront Park all on his schedule, with Davis ending the visit with a meet and greet in the banquet room of Paolucci's restaurant at 5:00.
