(KTNC) - The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board approved funding for two applicants for the district’s Urban Special Project Program. Both projects are within the city of Auburn and were the only final applications the NRD received.
The City of Auburn submitted a request for assistance to install an interactive educational component in conjunction with a new trail around the city’s Recreation Complex.
The Auburn Public School sponsors the other project, which is for Scotty’s Garden, located near the Courthouse Square. The project includes an outdoor classroom, a trail, native plantings, and a rain garden.
Each applicant requested at or near the $25,000 funding limit. The NRD board approved adding funds to the 2014-15 Budget for both projects.
Work must be completed by June 1, 2015.
In other action, the NRD Board approved a move to contract with JEO Consulting for improvements to the Steamboat Trace Trail. JEO’s fee is $15,000.
Work includes finding a solution to a drainage problem on a two-mile section of the trail between Honey Creek and Weldon Creek. JEO will also look into grants to help pay for drainage improvements and hard-surfacing that section of the trail.
The board also voted to hire Jorgensen Surveying of Tecumseh to prepare surveys for the Duck Creek project.
