St. Joseph School District Subpoenaed for Records
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) --The St. Joseph school district superintendent's office has received a federal subpoena for records and other documents.
The request from the U.S. District Court of Western Missouri is for meeting records, meeting notices, policies and personnel records and other documents.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports the subpoena was served last week to the school board's custodian of records at the district offices.
Federal investigators have been looking into the school district's finances after questions were raised about stipends given to a number of top school officials without school board approval.
Steve Huff, assistant to the superintendent, says it would likely take a week or more to retrieve and submit all the requested documents.
Superintendent Fred Czerwonka says the district is cooperating and hopes to resolve the issue soon.
