(KAIR)--An alleged theft in January has an Atchison man facing several charges.
According to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person who was alarming several park goers in the 400 block of River Road just after 1:00 Tuesday afternoon.
Upon investigation, police discovered that 35-year-old Emerson Downing was wanted for allegedly taking a cell phone from a 24-year-old acquaintance in the 1700 block of Chestnut. Wilson says the phone was taken in January, but had just been reported missing earlier that morning.
An unknown controlled substance and drug paraphernalia were also found in Downing's possession. He is facing charges of theft, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He remains in the Atchison County Jail.
Wilson says the controlled substance will be sent to a lab for identification.
