Humboldt Pursuing Grant to Clean Properties
04/16/2014

(KTNC) - The City of Humboldt is accepting pre-applications from property owners who may be interested in a Demolition and Site Clearance program. The city is collecting the information so it can get a tally to submit along with an Owner-Occupied Rehab application the city is preparing.
There is no guarantee that Humboldt will receive a grant.
As proposed, the program will pay up to 80-percent of the total cost of demolition and site clearance of up to six vacant, blighted or dilapidated residential properties in Humboldt.
Property owners would be responsible for 10-percent of the demolition cost and the city would contribute 10-percent.
The City of Humboldt hopes to use an $87,600 grant, combined with $21,900 in matching funds from the city and property owners, to clear six or more properties.
It’s a volunteer program. For a property to be eligible for demolition and site clearance, all owners of record must agree to the demolition. Properties will remain in the owner’s name.
The one-page pre-applications and program guidelines are available at the Humboldt City Clerk’s office. The initial deadline to submit pre-applications to the city is 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.
The city will continue to take applications into May and June as they wait to find out if they receive the grant.
