(KNZA)--The Brown County Historical Society will be hosting a Family Fun Day Saturday in conjunction with a national exhibit currently on display in Hiawatha.
“The Bison: American Icon” is currently on display on the second floor of the Hiawatha City Hall.
Historical Society Director Eric Oldham says a number of activities are being planned from 10 to 2 Saturday for families to enjoy. Oldham says there will be sidewalk chalk art and a bison chip throwing game. In addition, the Iowa Tribe will have an authentic tipi for viewing and bison burgers will be served.
All the activities will be around the Hiawatha City Hall and on the west side of the Brown County Courthouse lawn. The event is free to the public, with a donation accepted for the food and exhibit.
The exhibit, which explores the meaning and significance of the iconic creature from the Plains Indian culture of the 1800’s through the commercial and national symbol of the present, will be on display through May 25th. Normal hours are 9 to 5 Monday through Friday, and Saturday’s from 10 to 2.
The exhibit is made possible through funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and several local sponsors.
