(KAIR)--The Atchison City Commission conducted their annual election for Mayor and Vice-Mayor Monday afternoon, and Mayor Dave Butler was easily elected to his second term in a row.
The process took place at the start of Monday's meeting when City Attorney J. David Farris opened nominations for Mayor. Butler was quickly nominated and seconded. After no other nominations were made, Farris declared the nominations closed, and congratulated Butler on his second consecutive term. Butler also served as Mayor from 1991-1993. 2001-2003, and 2008-2010.
Butler then entertained nominations for the position of Vice-Mayor. Commissioner Allen Reavis was the only nomination, and the Commission voted unanimously to have him return as Vice-Mayor.
In other business, several appointments were made to city boards. Commissioner Jack Bower was appointed to the Solid Waste Board and Chamber Board, Commissioner Larry Purcell was appointed to the Community Corrections Board and Project Concern Board, Commissioner Rita Hartman will serve on the Joint Communication Board, Reavis was appointed to the Conference Center Board, and Butler will serve on the Tourism Board.
Dave Geenens, Lois Akers, and Brian Henry will sit on the Mo-Kan Regional Board.
