HOLTON SALES TAX TO INCREASE TUESDAY 3/31/14 GB
(KNZA)-- Those shopping in Holton will pay a little more for purchases beginning Tuesday.
A one-half percent city-wide retailers sales tax approved by voters last November to fund maintenance of public infrastructure and pay down outstanding debt takes effect. With the increase, Holton’s sales tax will total 8.3 percent.
The sales tax increase was originally set to take effect at the first of this year. However, the Kansas Department of Revenue contacted the city and told them state law requires a 90-day time period to elapse before a sales tax becomes effective.
The sunset date of December 31st, 2023 remains in place because it was specified on the ballot.
The sales tax increase is projected to generate nearly $390,000 annually.
