(KNZA)--A May 5th jury trial has been set for a former Sabetha man accused of the sexual exploitation of a child.
49-year-old Christopher Sperling recently pleaded not guilty in Nemaha County District Court to the felony charge.
He was arrested in January of last year following an investigation by the Sabetha Police Department.
Sperling is a registered sex offender. He spent more than 4 years in prison after being convicted of the attempted rape of a 9-year-old Clay Center girl.
In a separate Nemaha County case, Sperling faces felony counts of trafficking contraband into a correctional facility and conspiracy to commit aggravated escape from custody .
Authorities allege Sperling and another inmate conspired last March to escape from the Nemaha County Jail. A number of shanks were found during a jail inspection, leading to the charges.
A preliminary hearing in that case is now set for April 11th.
Sperling remains in the Nemaha County Jail on $250,000 bond.
